Esa parece ser la pregunta que ha orientado por largo tiempo el tipo de prácticas artísticas que constituyen la obra de Antonio Caro. A través del arte se promueven los principios y estructuras que soportan el cuerpo social del que proviene. Las nociones o ideas que constituyen la experiencia de una determinada obra son respuestas a la idea de mundo que dicha estructura social afirma. El carácter local y contingente del arte, visto desde esta perspectiva, contrasta con la fantasía de que pueda tomarse como una expresión universal del espíritu humano, como suele sostenerse desde una perspectiva hegemónica.
